Dinner and a giggle.

July 26, 2010

So we’re sitting down to dinner and having ourselves a good old time when Gretchen tells me that Joey helped with the cooking of the dinner. I tell Joey how proud I am of him and ask him to tell me what he did. He tells me that he wrapped the fish with foil and helped put it in the over.

This is all going well and good, however he’s unfortunately forgotten the words for tin foil. He takes a few stabs at it and Gretchen and I fill in the blanks for him. There is one more term though that he can’t quite remember.

Gretchen and I start throwing the names of utensils at him hoping he can come up with the answer until we have this exchange.

Joe: Are you thinking about the baking sheet?
Joey: Daddy (he says giggling), there’s no such thing as a baking sheep!

Yeah, we pretty much lost it after that. It all went down hill into a silly conversation about The Baking Sheep.

Somewhere over the laundry…

July 25, 2010

Apparently we’ve been doing laundry all wrong all these years.  I asked Joey to help me sort the laundry last night and gave him piles of whites and colors.  I was informed half way through the process that I don’t sort into colors and whites, but my two bins are in fact whites and “rainbow.”

So for all of you preparing to do laundry today you can now sort into the more appropriate group of rainbow!

New rug!

July 24, 2010

So I know this blog is supposed to be all about all things Joey, but the more I write the more I find that the blog is an excuse for me to talk endlessly  about what ever I want and not have to bother Gretchen with all of my inane and often random wanderings.  This might be a bigger boost to our marriage than buying the dishwasher!

Anywhoo, so as you all saw from the previous posts we bought a new couch (yay!).  Now it was time to look for a new rug to put underneath it.  Our old pink rug wasn’t cutting it.  My expectation given how long it takes us to get pretty much anything done now a days was to wait for maybe six months before finding the perfect carpet remnant that would fit in our living room under the new couch.  Much to my surprise, Gretchen calls me today and tells me to meet her at the carpet store because she found the perfect carpet for our new floor!

As it turns out she had some spare time this afternoon and she went to the local carpet mart over on Broadway (about five blocks from the house).  She walks in and finds the perfect carpet remnant (we needed something 8×12 and she found one that was exactly 8×12, go G!).  Now at the point in the story I’m not sure what happens.  According to Gretchen it goes something like this:

Gretchen: This carpet is perfect…I’ll take it!
Joe (Joe’s the carpet guy, happy coincidence): That’ll be $190.
Gretchen: I really didn’t want to spend more than $110.
Joe (again the carpet guy, not me): Okay, the carpet is $110.

What?!  Seriously?! Joe the carpet guy took $80 dollars off the carpet just because she asked for it?  I’m not a fan of haggling, but if that’s the way it works, I’m going to start right away
…though I do have my suspicions.  It all sounds too easy, here’s how I think it might have gone…

Gretchen: This carpet is perfect…I’ll take it!
Joe (Joe’s the carpet guy, happy coincidence): That’ll be $190.
Gretchen: I really didn’t want to spend more than $110. [Insert boob flash]
Joe (again the carpet guy, not me): Okay, the carpet is $110.

I mean that’s the only way I could honestly see that happening.  I know it’s economic hard times and everything, but somebody flashed something to get that much off the carpet!  Regardless, we have a new carpet and it looks great, and again we got one hell of a deal!

Goodbye old friend

July 22, 2010

Well it’s official after fifteen some odd years we’ve gotten rid of the old couch.  I can’t honestly remember who bought it or what they bought it for, but a long time ago (and I mean a long time ago, think in couch years) I was given a couch as I saw my way out into the world.  Well, fifteen years, a wife and a child later we’ve given it up to spend the rest of its life (however many minutes that may be) with another deserving family.  The lady that we sold it to has six kids so I don’t think it will make it that much longer…I can only hope they love it like I loved it.  Though if they manage to keep it for another fifteen years I’m calling an exorcist!

Now onto the good news.  We got a new couch to replace the old one.  God bless Craigslist!  We found a pair of students who had bought the new couch a year ago and now they were moving out.  Neither of them had a use for the new couch where they were going so they decided to sell it off.  as it turns out they had to get out in a hurry so they sold it for a lot less than they paid for it a year ago – I’m guessing neither of them were econ majors because we got the new couch for dirt cheap.  More good news, neither of them smoked or had dogs to the couch is nearly new, in great condition and doesn’t stink.  What more could you really ask for?

Also,  while I would call cushions the shape of my butt a feature, I’m not sure anyone else would.  However, the new couch is packed with what pretty much everyone would call features.  The far seat on the right is a recliner, the seat next to that has a fold down cup holder, the seat next to that is another recliner and the seats all the way on the end turn into a sofa bed.  Seriously, it’s like a swiss army couch!  I’m sure there is a button on it somewhere that massages something, I just need to find it.

Anyway, we’re really happy with the new couch and Gretchen is overwhelmed with how happy she is to not only be rid of my other old couch, but to replace it with another couch that’s so nice and wonderful.

Makin cupcakes

July 22, 2010

So I should probably know what the event was that prompted the making of the cupcakes, but I can’t.  It was either Gretchen’s birthday or maybe there was a party at school for Joey.  Either way, that’s not the important thing, what is important is how cute my kid is.  You know sometimes I just feel bad for other parents.  If only they had those little miss pageants for boys I  would so move to Texas just so we could win every one of them.  More pictures on the flickr page.

The first lost tooth.

July 19, 2010

So about a weeks ago, Joey comes to us and tells us that one of his teeth are loose.  Us, having no standard of comparison, just kind of accept that he’s losing his baby teeth.  So we call the dentist to see if there is anything we need to do, at which point the dentist informs us that most children lose their teeth at around six or seven.

Holy Crap!  I mean don’t get me wrong, I think every parent likes to hear news that their kid is ahead of the curve, but wow, just wow.

Two days later it finally happened.  We’re a little concerned because nobody can seem to locate the tooth.  He lost it in the middle of the day at day care, and though everyone was immediately aware that he lost a tooth, no one could find it.  So, just a heads up, my kids tooth is out there somewhere in wild.  The hard part was trying to figure out how to go about getting him some toothfairy money without an actual tooth.  So my lovely, and smart, wife said that if he put a drawing of his lost tooth under his pillow, that the tooth fairy would accept that just as well.  That’s some on your feet thinking right there.  Too bad Joey has no idea of what money is used for and therefore couldn’t be bothered.

New pictures up.

We love a parade.

July 5, 2010

Yesterday was the 4th of July parade in Seaside.  I suspect it was the 4th of July parade pretty much anywhere there was a parade yesterday, but I couldn’t make it to all of those.  I could make it to Seaside.  Those of you Seaside should already pretty much know what the Seaside parade looked like.  It was kind of ghetto.  None the less we went and had a good time.  We started the trip off by sharing some ice cream, and then by sitting on the sidewalk and watching the “parade” go by.  All things considered I think the Ice Cream was the hit of the day.

Here is our first attempt to blog about our kids.  Joey and [Name Pending].  Here will be a place to learn more about the daily lives of the little ones and all of the cute things that they do.
